Thomas Gough born 1901 was born in the county home in enniscorthy Wexford. He married at the age of 29yrs and for a few years worked with building contractors around the county of Carlow. He was a stanch Fine Gael supporter and in the early 1930s joined the infamious Blueshirts. His only living child remembers him leaving the house dressed in his blue shirt and his blue berret, which was the uniform of the Blueshirts. He also served for a time in the defence forces his serial no, was 810327.His main job in life was as a mill worker in Bagenalstown, a job he did for many many years up until his retirement. He was a keen gardener and won many prizes down through the yrs, he was also a dab hand at pitch n putt in his day. His father was also called Thomas and he was born in 1871 in Bagenalstown Co, Carlow. He was the youngest of 5 children, the others were Joeseph Patrick  Martin and Rose. He was a tinsmith by trade but later became a dealer. He married in New Ross Co, Wexford in 1899 to a Tyrone woman. They travelled around quite a bit in the early years but soon came back to settle in his hometown of Bagenalstown. He had 6 children in his married life  Thomas (above) John Joeseph James Esther and Edward. However for reasons best known to himself he deserted the family and went to Enniscorthy Co, wexford never returning to visit or see his wife and children again. His father was called John Gough and was born around 1838 or so an exact date has not been established yet. There is some reason to believe that he may have been born in Co, wexford and that he may well have been church of ireland and not catholic. This however is still being researched and cannot be for certain as yet. what is know of him is that he married a lady by the name of Catherine Murphy and that in the early 1870s they lived and worked here in Bagenalstown Co, Carlow. All i know of the family is of their youngest child Thomas (mentioned above) There is some suggestion that their other children may well have emigrated to America. It is not yet known how or when John and Catherine died. It has emerged that John and Catherines children did indeed emigrate to America. In the latter day saints temple in Salt lake there was a record of the family submitted into their archives by a direct decendant of John and Catherines. The record was submitted in 1989 and the submitters name is listed as being D K Goff.My hope is that there may be some information on how i can contact this side of the family in the records and perhaps gain some more information on the lives of John and Catherine.
